Libraries Week – more important than ever this year!

LIBRARIES Week – the annual week-long celebration of libraries – is taking place from Monday October 5-10 in Warrington and library operator LiveWire wants readers to get involved virtually and share their current and favourite reads.
This year the theme is “Your Passport to Reading” and celebrates the role libraries have in keeping the nation reading – something that’s more important than ever in the current times.
Books can offer both some much-needed escapism and also important practical help and guidance on a range of subjects for both adults and children.
LiveWire, which manages the borough’s library service on behalf of Warrington Borough Council, has successfully and safely reopened 10 of the town’s 12 libraries since the lockdown caused by the current pandemic.
The remaining two closed libraries – Birchwood and Westbrook – are due to open in early November.
To support the physical library service, LiveWire has recently launched a dedicated Facebook page to help stay connected with library users, and share lots of literary-themed content as well as keeping users up to date with LiveWire libraries.
LiveWire’s library team is urging readers to join in the celebration by going online and getting involved by sharing their love of books on the Facebook page.
Some suggestions include:
• Take a photo of yourself reading something – perhaps your current read or perhaps an all-time favourite?
• Describe your favourite book in six words (remembering say what it is!)
• Reveal the most unusual place you like to read.
• Perhaps describe the plot of your favourite book using only emojis!
Wendy Molyneux, strategic library manager said: “Libraries Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate books and reading and recognise the important contribution libraries make every day. We all know the current pandemic presents a challenging time which means, this year, Libraries Week will be delivered a bit differently.
“We now have a dedicated FaceBook page which allows us to stay connected with our communities and invite them to get involved with all the exciting book-themed things we do. Please like and share our Facebook page Yourlivewire Libraries and we’d love to hear from you soon.”
