WARRINGTON’S Mayor Cllr Wendy Johnson attended her first community event since lockdown when she was on hand to help Warrington Disability Partnership launch an extension to their Town Centre Shopmobility service.
The new scheme will be operated by staff at the charity’s Mobility and Independent Living Store located in Birchwood Shopping Centre.
Dave Thompson, Chief Executive and Co-founder of WDP expressed his thanks to the management and staff at Birchwood Shopping Centre for their continuing help and support.
He said: “Sadly, dozens of Shopmobility schemes across the country have closed during the recent years, mainly because of reduced funding. But with the continued support of Warrington Borough Council, businesses and individuals, we have continued to extend our services.”
Dave said, members of their Town Centre scheme, which costs £20pa, can use the new service without the need to sign up to a separate scheme.
“We operate a standard charge of £1.50 per visit which goes towards the general running costs of the scooters. Day membership is also available.”
John Magee, Centre Manager at Birchwood Shopping Centre said; “We are delighted to be extending our working partnership with WDP, utilising their Shopmobility expertise’s enabling those customers who require extra assistance to go about their shopping easily and freely at Birchwood Shopping Centre. It’s great to have the scheme up and running once again.”
