New cycle map to be sent to every home in Warrington

A BRAND new up-to-date cycle map is being sent to every home in Warrington in a bid to persuade more people to get on their bikes.
The borough council is sending out the maps providing route information for everyone travelling by bike.
Every road in the borough is graded according to the level of experience needed. There are four grades from yellow, which are quiet residential streets, through orange, pink and finally purple roads, which require a good level of experience and awareness of the road conditions.
Also shown on the map are off-road cycle routes and greenways, safe crossing points, cycle parking and bike shops. Every school in the borough is also marked, making the map a useful educational resource to plan a route to school.
On the rear there are maps of several of Warrington’s outlying villages, together with a useful overview map of the borough, showing key routes and distances.
The map also contains safety advice for cyclists and motorists, and a section on how to find the council’s free adult cycle skills training courses. These courses are available for anyone over 16 who lives, studies or works in Warrington and are for absolute beginners through to more experienced riders, providing the skills and confidence to ride safely in traffic.
The council’s cabinet member for highways and transportation, Cllr Hans Mundry (pictured), said: “This map is a fantastic tool to help people get out and explore our local areas by bike, and also on foot. It is arriving at a time when many families are planning journeys to school or work, and will be a useful resource to help plan a low-traffic, direct cycling or walking route.
“We’re committed to promoting active, sustainable transport and reducing car dependency as part of our Local Transport Plan. Our new cycle map will help support these aims.”
Maps will also be available for collection at information points such as libraries, leisure centres and schools when they reopen.
