WORK is underway to evict travellers from an illegal camp which has been set up on land on the Grappenhall Heys and Appleton border.
Earlier this evening Warrington South MP Andy Carter visited the encampment which consist of several caravans and associated vehicles on a layby at the junction of Witherwin Avenue and Lumb Brook Road.
Mr Carter said: “I’ve been contacted by a number of concerned residents today who live in nearby Grappenhall Heys, worried about a group of travellers who’ve set up camp”.
“I’ve spoken with the Council and met Cheshire Police this evening at the site, with a view to moving the travellers on as soon as possible”.
“The council have been in touch with the landowner to given them advice on how to deal with the situation and I’m keeping a careful watch on this”.
The encampment is believed to include four Irish families, travellers from Galway and Sligo.
Its not the first time the area of land has been used an illegal camp site.
