THELWALL couple Dorothy and Harold Petts are probably one in a million as they prepare to celebrate platinum wedding anniversary on Sunday – 70 years as husband and wife.

When the Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their Platinum wedding anniversary in 2017 they were described as one in a million.
Although there are no official statistics to back it up, reports at the time said only around 30 couples would join the Royal couple in celebrating their Platinum Wedding Anniversary that year.
Or to put it another way – just 60 people in the UK would mark 70 years of marriage in 2017 based on the average life span of people – that’s 1 in a million.

The couple met when Dorothy, aged 93 lived at Statham Post office and walked to the station to go to work in Manchester. Harold, aged 97, a slef-employed builder/plumber was doing work at the post office and walked with his bike to the station going to work at Eagle
Brow where he had an office. He asked her out and they never looked back.
Their daughter Janice Marlow puts the success of their long marriage down to “No worries” and “dad working doing a job he enjoyed, being self employed, playing in a band and loving their home and garden.”
Harold has lived in Ferry Lane Thelwall for 86 years!
A small glass of sherry each morning for the past 20 years also seems to have been a recipe for success!
The couple have two children Janice and Anthony, three grand children (triplets) and two great grand children.
