Residents oppose plans for hot food takeaway

NEARBY residents and councillors have lodged objections to a plan to convert a former bridal shop into a hot food takeaway in Warrington Road, Penketh.
But planning officers say the shop – which is currently empty and has also previously been an off licence – is not contributing anything to the local community or economy and should be brought back into use.
They say the change of use will not harm the amenity of nearby homes and should be allowed.
Cllr Linda Dirir (pictured) and Cllr Dave Keane and parish councillor Craig Leniham say Penketh already has too many takeaway shops and increased use of the shop would cause parking and highway safety problems.
Penketh Parish Council has lodged objections, along with 10 residents
Cooking smells, noise, vermin and anti-social behaviour issues are also raised.
The shop is in a small parade which also includes a hairdressers and a beauty salon. A short distance away there are two public houses, a convenience store and an existing hot food takeaway.
The proposed hours of use of the takeaway would be Monday to Saturday: 10am to
11pm, and Sundays and Bank Holidays 10am to 10.30pm. The shop would employ the equivalent of three full time staff.
There is no dedicated car parking included within the proposals

  1. I so glad this has been opposed. Penketh does not need another takeaway, not to mention the detriment from cooking smells while enjoying a relaxing massage or havi g your hair done

  2. Come and see what our planners have created in Culcheth, where eateries, takeaways, restaurants, and bars in addition to the traditional and already well frequented pubs, jostle side by side, without any apparent (so we are assured by the planners) loss of amenity. The residents of the village, however, will tell you otherwise.
