POLICE have seized electric scooters and an off road bike following problems in the Sankey Valley Park and Westbrook areas of Warrington.

Two scooters were seized by Cheshire Police Roads and Crime Unit following hard work by the local Problem Solving Team who acted on concerns of local residents about off-road bikes and illegal scooters in the Sankey Valley Park and Westbrook areas.

Currently, electric scooters cannot legally be used on the road anywhere in the UK under the Highways Act 1835 due to the fact they are not subject to vehicle registration or road tax.
They are also illegal for use on cycle lanes and pavements as they are motorised and have no pedals.
Chief Inspector Gareth Wrigley said: “We will continue to act on any information passed on to us communities and urge anyone who has any concerns about off-road bikes in their area to please report it to us by calling 101 or report via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/ro/report/

Meanwhile earlier today Town Centre PCSOs today seized an electric scooter being ridden around the Golden Square shopping mall.
It became the latest such scooter being seized due to being ridden on a public highway without insurance.
The male rider was also arrested for alleged Drug Possession.
