A rescue plan is being drawn up in a bid to save Lymm Rotary Club after members voted to close the club at the end of June after 84 years of serving the local community.

The decision to close at an EGM on Wednesday evening caused an outcry in the village after being reported by warrington-worldwide. Offers of support came flooding in after previous attempts by the club to recruit new members failed.
Past member Neville Davies said: “Since reading of the sad termination of the Rotary Club of Lymm, a group of past members and friends with vast experience of Rotary have got together and are drawing up a rescue plan to ensure the Club continues.
“There will be a new approach to ensure the Club appeals to a wider community and gains the support of an increasing number of individuals to take part in keeping the Club running.
“Over the past years, Lymm Rotary Club has done a tremendous amount of good work for Lymm and district and long may this continue. There have even been members who have followed their fathers into Rotary, giving a combined service of over one hundred years between them.
“There have been other individuals who have supported and helped Rotary in many ways and we would ensure their valuable contributions continue for the benefit of the Club.
“We cannot sit back and lose the Senior Citizen’s Party, which residents have enjoyed for over sixty years and the Christmas Float, which has toured Lymm and Thelwall for over fifty years, giving pleasure to young and old alike.
“Many local organisations, particularly youth orientated, will certainly miss the valuable support Lymm Rotary Club has given them.
“Let us not forget the principle of Rotary is Fellowship and Friendship, which is vital in this present day.
“We will be liaising with the members of Lymm Rotary Club over the coming days to discuss our proposals and moving forward to save this Club.”
