Cyclist remains in critical condition following Winwick Road collision

A CYCLIST involved in a collision with a BMW car on the A49 Winwick Road, Warrington, last month, remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The collision took place shortly after 6.30am on Thursday 21 May and resulted in the road being closed while officers investigated the scene.
The cyclist, a 43-year-old local man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Aintree University Hospital; where he remains in a critical condition.
Following the collision, this was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to a previous incident that morning involving the same car.
The IOPC has decided an investigation was not required.
Following the decision Cheshire Constabulary is now carrying out an internal review to look at any points of learning or development.
The driver of the car, a 41-year-old Warrington man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influences of drugs and possessing Class A drugs.
