FIVE fire crews battled a large barn blaze involving a substantial amount of hay at Lymm on Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 3pm firefighters from Lymm, Runcorn, Birchwood, Penketh and Trafford in Greater Manchester were called to reports of a fire at a farm in Higher Lane, Lymm, Warrington.
On arrival they found a large fire in a barn containing a substantial amount of hay.
The barn measured approximately 20 square metres.
A water supply was set up and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to bring the fire under control.
The firefighting activity was split sectors, with some firefighters tackling the fire inside the barn and others concentrating on the area outside the barn.
Farm machinery has been used to move unaffected hay bales to a safe place.
It has also been used to spread out hay bales affected by the fire.
Firefighters remained on the scene for a number of hours dampening down the area affected by the fire to make it safe.
