Drug driver arrested as Winwick Road closed following collision with cyclist

UPDATED:POLICE have arrested the driver of a car involved in a collision with a cyclist which resulted in the A49 Winwick Road, northbound being closed to traffic this morning.

The road was closed northbound between Cromwell Avenue and the M62 Junction nine – but has since re-opened.
The driver of the car, a 41-year-old Warrington man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influences of drugs and possessing Class A drugs.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 6.30am police were called to reports of a collision on the A49 Winwick Road between Cromwell Avenue and Junction nine of the M62.
“Officers attended at the scene and found there had been a collision between a car and a cyclist near to Motormill car showroom. The cyclist is believed to have sustained serious injuries and been taken to hospital.
“The driver of the car, a 41-year-old local man, has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including drug driving and possession of a Class A drug.”
