Widow left heartbroken after memorial tree vandalised

A CULCHETH woman was left heartbroken when she discovered a memorial tree planted in memory of her late husband had been vandalised.

The Silver Birch tree had been planted close to the entrance of Culcheth Linear Park in memory of David Watmough eleven years ago.
His widow Dorothy discovered it had been vandalised during a recent visit to the park.
Dorothy said: “The family and friends planted the white barked silver birch 11 years ago as a memorial to my husband David.”
In recent weeks the tree was vandalised with no care or respect for nature and is now battling to stay alive.
Dorothy and her family managed to put the tree back on the remaining stump and support it with wood and wire in the hope that it will survive.
Since lockdown it is one of a number of acts of vandalism which have been carried out in the area
