A free food outlet set up by an Orford husband and wife team to help vulnerable people in the Orford area of Warrington, urgently needs tinned food and babies’ nappies or other non perishable goods.

During the current coronavirus pandemic there has been a surge in demand for food with more than 450 people passing through in one day
The Friends of Meadowside Community Interest Company was founded by Mark and Helen Davies in 2018, with the sole aim of providing a support network to the most vulnerable members of the local community and helping to break down the barriers of accessing the relevant services available to citizens, without having to endure a ‘qualifying’ criteria and the feeling of abandonment at times of need.
Friends of Meadowside has been providing a variety of support services to the local community via community venues, ad hoc events within the local school and other locally run events.
Amongst a number of Community activities from Mental Fitness programmes to youth clubs they are also a very busy free food outlet helping over 200 families on a daily basis. With the current pandemic
meaning 1000s of local people being furloughed or made redundant, they have seen an exponential rise in food usage and recently witnessed a queue a quarter mile long with approximately 450 people
passing through for food assistance.

Mark said: “We are desperately in need of tinned food and babies’ nappies or other non perishable goods as we receive little of this commodity from our generous partners at the major supermarkets who donate
mostly fresh produce on a daily basis.
“Since November 2019 we have supplied the equivalent of 33,274 meals to the most disadvantaged people of the borough and collected 13,975kg of food from numerous supermarkets. We are also helping other charitable causes such as providing food to a St. Helens homeless charity.
All of the collections are conducted by volunteers who also assist in the distribution.
