“Virtual” relay run between Warrington and Hilden

A LOCAL running club has arranged a “virtual relay” to Hilden – Warrington’s German twin twin.
Spectrum Striders is based at Birchwood and, like all running clubs, members have not been able to run together since Lockdown.
They contacted two running clubs in Hilden, and the German runners immediately expressed and interest in joining in.
Janet Ridpath, of Spectrum Striders, said: “Runners from each club were asked to register on the ‘Twin Towns Challenge’ and 54 Striders and 39 German runners from LG Stadtwerke Hilden and the Volksgarten parkrun organisation signed up.
“Runners have adhered to the social distancing rules, running by themselves or with a member of their household. The participants ran, jogged and walked and then submitted the distance covered on a database.
“By 3.30pm on Sunday we have met (virtually) in Ostend and are hoping to complete the respective distances very soon.
“It would be a great experience to be able to do this in real life in the future.”
