One more death and nine new COVID-19 cases at Warrington

ONE more patient has sadly died at Warrington Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, with nine new cases confirmed in the town.

The number of deaths at Warrington Hospital now totals 89 and with at least 37 people dying in local care homes the town’s COVID-19 related death toll now numbers at least 126.
The hospital had discharged 186 patients as of noon Friday.
Across the UK the daily number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths was 315 taking the total number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths to 28,446
Nine more people tested positive for COVID-19 taking the total number of confirmed cases in Warrington to 635.
The daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was 4,339 and the total number of lab-confirmed UK cases is now 186,599.

At the government’s daily briefing cabinet minister Michael Gove said a further 76,496 tests had been carried out yesterday, bringing the total to 1,206,405.
He said that there will be a time, when the virus is under control, when “deep and probing questions” about the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis can be asked.
“Undoubtedly this, government, like all governments, will have made some mistakes.”
He also acknowleged lockdown will be having an impact on people’s mental health and general well being as well as an impact on economic activity, but relaxing measure searly would be “the worst thing to do.”
He said this would run the risk of a second spike in infection.
Mr Gove added that the government would be trialing a new tracking programme on the Isle of Wight next week with a view to having it more widely available later in the month.
This is aseen a key way of helping to lift some lockdown restrictions which prime minister Boris Johnson has pledged to set out in a comprehensive plan next Thursday.
