Two more patients die at Warrington Hospital as COVID-19 death toll across town climbs to at least 125

TWO more patients have sadly died at Warrington Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 with a further 621 deaths across the country taking the UK death toll to 28,131.

The number of deaths at Warrington Hospital now totals 88 and with at least 37 people dying in local care homes the town’s COVID-19 related death toll is now at least 125.The hospital had discharged 186 patients as of noon Friday.

A further 23 people have tested positive in the past 24 hours taking the total to 626.
As of noon Friday the  hospital has tested 2,376 patients in hospital/in the community.
Of those 749 tested positive (although not all of these are from Warrington) and the hospital is currently caring for 91 in patients, down on the 100 being treated last week and the 113 the week before.Across the country the number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus is up by 4,806 to 182,260 – but the number of people in hospital with the virus is down from 15,111 to 14,695.

During Saturday’s daily briefing, Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick said that 1,129,907 coronavirus tests have been carried out in the UK, including 105,937 on Friday.
He reiterated that the UK had passed the peak of the virus and the Prime Minister will explain how we address the second phase next week.
Dr Jenny Harries, one of Engand’s deputy chief medical officers said the number of people in hospitals had decreased by 13 per cent in the last week and the pressure on the NHS was now “moving down.”
Following a question from a member of the public regarding whether people can catch COVID-19 twice, she said there was still not enugh informaton yet to be clear on immune status.
“WE need to study this really carefully as we go forwards.”
