Bomb disposal experts detonate explosive device at Grappenhall

AN explosive device believed to date back to the Second World War was safely detonated by bomb disposal experts after being found in a field at Grappenhall, Warrington.

An army explosive ordnance disposal team attended at the scene after the device was discovered on Stockton Lane by a member of the public on Wednesday afternoon.
The road was closed while a controlled explosion took place at around 6.45pm yesterday evening.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 3.30pm on Wednesday, April 29, police received a report of a suspected explosive device being found in the Stockton Lane area.
“Officers and an army explosive ordnance disposal team attended the scene. After assessing the device, the EOD team carried out a controlled explosion on a nearby field.”
