POLICE investigations are ongoing after bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on an improvised device found in a garden at Orford, Warrington, yesterday.
A number of roads were closed around the Birtles Avenue area and homes evacuated following the discover of the device.
Police received a report of an improvised device being found in the front garden of an address in Birtles Road at 2:15pm.
The area was cordoned off with a number of neighbouring properties evacuated as a precaution.
The EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) team attended to the scene and following an assessment they carried out a controlled detonation of the improvised device.
At around 9pm the cordon was lifted and residents were able to return to their homes.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the improvised device is ongoing and a scene remains in place.
