Lymm Rotary help send stationary to support schools in Gambia

LYMM Rotary club has helped ship out stationary to support six schools in the Gambia.
For the past four years, Lymm Rotary Club has been supporting Goal for the Gambia, a British registered Charity which supports education & health care projects in a remote part of the country.
The charity supports six schools and nurseries and a village health project. In normal times, the CEO Sandy Sanyang invites tourists visiting the Gambia to visit schools to show how the charity offers help and often, visitors respond by offering assistance to the Charity. This can be by sponsorships of students, collecting baby & children’s clothing or providing proprietory medicines like paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Such donations are shipped monthly from Lymm. The Club also raised funds to pay for the installation of toilet facilities in a nursery.
Last year Bolton Daybreak Rotary Club joined with Lymm to raise £500 for educational supplies and obtained a matching grant from the District Foundation Committee, thereby creating a fund of £1,000. A “wish-list” of articles needed was obtained and one-third of the items was locally sourced in the Gambia and the remainder bought from suppliers in Manchester. Items provided were pencils, coloured pencils, scissors, rulers and erasers. In the Gambia, purchases included 720 exercise books, 2,000 sticks of chalk, 200 Vancard sheets & 5 tins of blackboard paint.
At present, the Gambia is in “lock-down” like many other countries so no tourists are around to see the work of the charity and offer support.
