Inventor creates face visors for health workers using 3D printers and clingfilm!

CULCHETH based inventor and technology entrepreneur Professor Bob Eden has created unique face visors for key health workers using 3D printers and clingfilm!
Bob, who was once short-listed to be the country’s first astronaut, is part of the Save the Raven Community initiative which has access to two 3D printers, but it takes about 13 hours to print each one.
He has already given 20 of these visors to local frontline healthcare providers.
It is being run as a joint initiative between Rawwater and the Raven group, to highlight the type of community work which would be ongoing, if they are successful in running a community pub.
Commenting on the use of clingfilm Bob said: “Cling film takes the place of more expensive acetate, normally used for face visors, which is becoming scarce. In this crisis, the supply chain for conventional visors is under stress and food-grade cling film makes for a quite adequate alternative.
“The initial response of healthcare users is that it seems a bit strange, at first, to use cling film. However the cling film is supported away from the face and extends to form a cap and a bib, whereas conventional visors do not protect the neck from contamination.
“Whilst it may seem a bit strange to use clingfilm, we believe it sets it apart from other prototypes and obviously the visor is reusable.”

Rawwater Engineering has submitted the detailed designs, and photographs to the ‘Medical and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority’ (MHRA).They await approval and in the meantime are providing visors to the community to those who have no PPE for their faces. If there is anyone out there who could assist by 3D printing additional visors for the community front line workers, please contact Bob via his website .
