Lymm Golf Club goes viral to beat the virus

WITH all the golf courses closed under the government lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, the ladies at Lymm Golf Club remained active.

The ladies of Lymm Golf Club used modern technology to make sure their incoming Lady Captain, Lottie Makin was not denied the first celebration of her year.

Tradition dictates that Lottie was due to “Drive In” on Thursday 2nd April, followed by a 4ball ladies team event, shotgun start. The outgoing Lady Captain, Liz Lyons, was determined that Lottie would have an alternative celebration to remember. Liz, undertook to get 90 lady members signed up to ZOOM, and organised an online, on screen meeting for the Thursday evening. With the help of Lottie’s husband Clive, they all managed to keep it a SECRET from Lottie but made sure she was in the right place at the right time. At 7.45pm they were all on screen to watch Lottie come online. Imagine 90 women all toasting their Lady Captain, when none of them had been allowed out for a week and not been able to play golf!. Yes, the noise was immense! Fortunately, Liz was able to MUTE everyone so that they could listen to various speeches including one from the incoming Captain David Jones (the second).

The club has been blessed that Lottie and David have both agreed to hold office for two years. They will be joined by the Junior Captain, Zach Smith, the President, Ken Mitchell, the Lady Vice, Ann Cox and the Vice Captain, Alan Burton. The Immediate Past Captains, Liz Lyons and David Jones (the first), have both agreed they will be on hand to support the others over the next two years. They took a short break at 8pm to join in the national applause in support of the NHS. Hopefully members will all stay healthy, get back on the course and get to use their club house to continue to celebrate everything they should be grateful for at Lymm Golf Club.
