A WOMAN horse rider and her horse were rescued by firefighters yesterday after falling into the Bridgewater Canal at Thelwall, Warrington.
Three fire engines from Lymm, Knutsford and Bollington were sent to the scene near Pickering’s Bridge.
The woman had managed to get out of the canal but the horse was still in the water.
A rope rescue unit from Lymm and an animal rescue team from Bollington managed to get the horse out of the canal.
The horse and rider were assessed by firefighters and neither appeared to have been injured.
A cordon was set up while the rescue went on and firefighters got the eight-year-old horse out of the canal with the aid of a farmer’s telehandler.
The horse was then handed over to the care of a vet.
Firefighters were in attendance for more than two-and-a-half hours.
