Man arrested in connection with attempted murder

Detectives have arrested a 35-year-old man from Stockport on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident on Old Liverpool Road last Saturday following a CCTV appeal.

He is currently in police custody being questioned by detectives.

The incident occured at 11.15am on Saturday 21 March when a 35-year-old man suffered serious head injuries after being assaulted on Old Liverpool Road.

The victim, from Widnes, presented himself at Warrington Hospital and has since been released.

Enquiries in relation to the attempted murder are ongoing.

A 42-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder at the time has been released with no further action.
