Man arrested for attempted murder after incident on Old Liverpool Road

UPDATED: A 42-year-old Warrington man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident on Old Liverpool Road on Saturday.

The incident, which resulted in the road being closed for several hours took place at 11.15am on Saturday 21 March, when police were called to reports of a 35-year-old man being assaulted with a weapon on Old Liverpool Road in Warrington.

The victim, from Widnes, received serious injuries to his head.

He presented himself at hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 42-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody for questioning.

The investigation is in its early stages and enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what has taken place.
