Village pre-school plans expansion

A VILLAGE pre-school that three years ago was facing closure has unveiled plans for expansion.
High Legh Pre-School Nursery, which has been part of the local community for more than 50 years, is launching a brand-new baby room this spring.
The nursery setting will be able for the first time to care for babies from six months old when it officially opens the new facility after Easter.
It comes after the nursery faced an uncertain future back in 2017 when it found itself suddenly homeless.
The much-loved nursery, which is a registered charity, had operated out of the nearby primary school, but when the school expanded it was no longer able to accommodate the group leaving them just weeks to find a new home or face closure.
Thankfully a permanent new home was found at Rosemead – a converted cottage on Pheasant Walk – and since then the nursery has continued to thrive.
Nursery deputy manager Ellis Starkey said: “High Legh Pre-School Nursery has a long-standing history in the village, having welcomed generations of families through our doors over the years.
“Traditionally, we’ve always provided care for children aged between two and five years old, so it’s a very exciting time for the nursery to be opening our doors to babies for the first time in our history.
“There’s currently nowhere else in High Legh providing childcare for the under twos, meaning parents have to send their children out of the village and then bring them back when they’re pre-school age which can be unsettling. Now, we are thrilled to be able to provide a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment for local children from babies all the way up until they leave us to go to school.”
Staff will be giving the public a sneak preview of the brand-new baby room during the High Legh 10K Race event on Sunday, March 8 when the nursery will be hosting an Open Day.
Doors will open at 10.30am until 12.30pm and activities will be provided for the under-fives, along with cakes and refreshments. Admission is free, but donations are welcome for the nursery.
A group of parents are also putting their best foot forward and running the High Legh 10k to raise funds for a new outdoor area at the nursery.
