Daresbury Expressway closed for third time in a week following fatal collision

UPDATED: POLICE have confirmed a man has died following a serious road traffic collision which resulted in the Daresbury Expressway being closed for the third time in a week this morning (Wednesday).

Police closed the A558 in both directions between Chester Road and Pitts Heath Lane, with closures expected to remain into the afternoon.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: Shortly after 10am on January 22, police were called to reports of a collision on the Daresbury Expressway.

“The incident, which involved a grey Citroen Xsara Picasso, a grey Peugeot 3008 and a HGV, occurred near to the science park.

“Sadly, the driver of the Citroen was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Formal identification of the man has not yet taken place, however he is believed to be a 39-year-old man from the Widnes area – his next of kin have been informed.

“There were no reports of any other injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid their investigation.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone with any information that may assist the investigation, is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML618222.

“Daresbury Expressway remains closed at this time while recovery work takes place at the scene, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

The closure impacted on traffic in the Halton and Warrington area for much of the day.

It is the third time this week the Daresbury Expressway has been closed..

On Tuesday morning a Ford Transit van and a Mercedes were involved in a collision on the same stretch, resulting in the road being closed from 8am until around 10am.

Five cars were involved in another collision near to Manor Park Avenue at around 9.15am, resulting ih the road being closed into the afternoon.
