A flood alert has been issued for the Mersey Estuary at Warrington as strong winds and rain hit the town.

The high tide is expected to be higher than usual at Fiddlers Ferry, Eastford Road and Arpley Bridge as a result of high spring tides and strong winds.

Consequently flooding of low lying land, roads and farmland is possible from the early hours of Tuesday 14/01/20 through to Wednesday 15/01/2020.

The environment agency believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads in the following places: Fiddlers Ferry between 01:45 and 02:45, Eastford Road between 01:45 and 02:45, Arpley Bridge between 02:00 and 03:00.

It is possible that river levels may affect Arpley Road under the railway bridge. Flood alerts may also be required for subsequent high tides on Tuesday at midday, and Wednesday.

The environment agency are closely monitoring the situation.
