Ashley bounces back from injury to retain title

WARRINGTON Athletic Club’s under 17 woman Ashley Nemits, just six months after recovering from injury, competed in the Northern Indoor Championships at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield in the under 17 300 metres.
Having only run a 200 metres indoor at Sportcity Manchester on January 5 and finishing second in 25.54 seconds since the English Schools last year, Ashley was not expecting to win.
However she won her heat in 41.10 seconds then finished second in her semi-final in 40.04 seconds to progress to the final
In the final Ashley ran excellently to retain her title in a season’s best time of 39.72 seconds.
Twenty five Warrington Athletic Club athletes took part in the Manchester Area League at Tatton Park.
In the under 11 age group Spencer Astbury ran well to finish in 18th place in the boys race in 10 minutes 20 seconds while Dylan Langley finished 41st in 11 minutes 39 seconds .In the girls race Ellie Barker ran well finishing in 10th place in 10 minutes 28 seconds and with Sinead Gregory 25th in 11 minutes 32 seconds and Brooke watson 40th in 12 minutes 13 seconds the team finished in seventh place on 75 points. Natasha Andrews completed the squad in 68th place in 13 minutes 29 seconds.
In the under 13 age group Jack Marwood ran excellently to finish in second place in 12 minutes 43 seconds and Jacob Pryor finished in 21st place in 13 minutes 41 seconds. In the Girls race Alice Nicholson continued her good form to finish seventh in 14 minutes 05 seconds and along with Imogen and Nia Wharton in 13th and 17th places in !4 minutes 23 seconds and 14 minutes 36 seconds respectively the team finished in fourth place on 37 points. Evie Owen completed the squad in 48th place in 16 minutes 12 seconds.
In the under 15 age group Orla Gregory was an excellent winner in 16 minutes 47 seconds and along with Eva Ferris seventh in 18 minutes 15 seconds and Lucie Davies 13th in 18 minutes 40 seconds they won the team event.
The squad was completed by Jasmine Jones 18th in 19 minutes 05 seconds and Molly Wormald 48th in 21 minutes 36 seconds. Ben Clayton was the only runner from the club in the boys race finishing 50th in 22 minutes 47 seconds.
In the under 17 women’s race Siobhan Gregory finished 19th in 28 minutes 25 seconds and Fay Humphreys was 25th in 33 minutes 36 seconds.
In the Senior women’s race Emma Pryor ran well to finish in 112th place overall in 39 minutes 52 seconds placing her 25th in the over 35 masters age group and Faye Lawton finished close behind in 117th place overall in 40 minutes 02 seconds placing her 42 in the 20-34 age group.
In the Senior men’s race David Watson finished in an excellent 24th place overall in 34 minutes 23 seconds placing him second in the over 45 masters age group. Steve Watmough finished in 81st place overall in 36 minutes 47 seconds to win the over 55 masters age group and Daniel Newman finished in 212th place overall in 40 minutes 41 seconds placing him 14th in the over 50 age group.
In the league individual after four races Orla Gregory is in the lead in the under 15 girls and in the Masters over 45 age group David Watson is also in the lead.
