OnSide Warrington Youth Club (WYC) is celebrating after being awarded almost £200,000 in National Lottery funding to support its work mentoring young people in Warrington.

Based at several locations in Warrington WYC will use the money for their three-year Community Mentoring Programme starting this month.

WYC has been successfully running a mentoring programme since 2015, this focusses on supporting the personal, emotional and social development for young people aged 7-19 by facilitating bespoke packages of one-to-one support and group work. Staff on the programme train and support a dedicated team of local volunteers who offer disadvantaged children a consistent positive role-model, allowing them to explore their interests, learn new skills, develop peer friendships and enjoy being a child again.

The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK will mean that the Community Mentoring Programme will be able to run for a further three years.

Jamie Patterson, Grants and Trusts Fundraiser at WYC says: “We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work in this way. Now, thanks to National Lottery players we will be able to provide hundreds of young people in Warrington with the opportunity to be mentored by trained local volunteers, giving them their own positive role models, and helping them to enjoy positive activities in their local community.”

OnSide Warrington Youth Club will soon become Warrington Youth Zone. With a brand-new building, state of the art facilities and the opportunity to welcome an additional 3,000 members per year – due to open in 2021.
