Campaigners “relaxed” over Raven Inn being under offer

CAMPAIGNERS battling to “Save The Raven Inn” at Glazebury say they are “relaxed” over the historic building being listed as ‘under offer’ on the agent’s website.

Group spokesperson Peter Sturman said: “We are quite relaxed about this. As we have said, recently, we believe the owners are looking to run down the six month moratorium period under the ACV. The moratorium period expires on 25th of January 2020.

“Let’s be clear, the ACV runs until 25th July 2024.

“If a new owner were to come forward to continue to run the Raven Inn as a pub. The Raven Inn would have been saved, albeit not as a community pub.

“If a new owner were to seek change of use or demolition, our stance has been very clear, firm and unwavering. We will vehemently oppose the planning application that would be necessary for any of these purposes.

“Even if a new owner were to propose running the Raven Inn as a pub, we would keep our group going. One thing the last year has taught us is not to take anything at face value.

“We would also constantly be looking for the thin end of any wedges.”

The property is described on Read Properties website as a “The Raven Inn, a beautiful 16thcentury Inn is available for sale, located in the small Cheshire Village of Glazebury. Ideally situated less than one mile from Bents Garden Centre, on the A574 towards Culcheth. This route links Leigh 6 miles to the North and Warrington 9 miles to the southwest. The Raven Inn is suitable for a restaurant/bar. The first floor offers a spacious 3 bedroom living accommodation.”
