Bus fares to increase by 10p in New Year

AFTER being frozen or reduced since 2015 some of Warrington’s bus fares are set to increase by 10p from January 2.

Regular Warrington’s Own Buses customers, who buy day, week, month or annual tickets will not be affected. Their fares will remain frozen at the 2015 price.

During this time, many transport operators have increased prices, with rail fares increasing again this January.

Inflation since 2015 has been 12%, meaning that the bus company has absorbed these increasing costs to labour, parts and services. It has been able to do this by improving efficiency and from a small growth in customer numbers.

A spokesperson for the bus company said: “Whilst we continue to seek efficiencies and improve route profitability, it is important that we respond to the changing circumstances.

“We continue to run a number of unprofitable routes in order to keep the town connected, as part of our commitment to Warrington”.

Single fares will increase by 10p, which is the smallest increment that can be done, in order to prevent unnecessary delays at bus stops. Return ticket prices will increase in proportion. Children under 16 continue to pay half fare and those with a concessionary pass continue to travel free of charge.

There are also some revisions to selected other fares, please visit the website warringtonsownbuses.co.uk for further information.
