The best read library books in Warrington

0

LIVEWIRE’S community librarian team has revealed Warrington’s most borrowed books of 2019.
Topping the fiction list for adults is The Second Child by Caroline Bond, which was a designated “Book of the Month” – showing how popular the initiative is in encouraging library users to try new books.
Big name thriller authors like Lee Child, James Patterson, Michael Connelly and David Baldacci were other popular choices.
Junior fiction sees Jessica Parish’s popular Pugalugs series most popular for the third year running, with the usual big names dominating the rest of the list – including David Walliams, and the Wimpy Kids books.
The most popular adult non-fiction book borrowed was a local choice – Warrington History Tour by Janice Hayes – Janice also had another local history title in the top 10.
Recipe books by famous faces including Mary Berry, Jamie Oliver and Joe Wicks also helped make up the top 10 – while Michelle Obama’s autobiography Becoming also proved popular with borrowers.
Junior Non-Fiction is dominated by gaming and technology genres – including LiveWire’s new stock of augmented reality books – however in there is a lovely traditional book on how to tell the time, complete with an adjustable clock on the front cover.
The teenage category sees books on the popular online game Fortnite just pipping Philip Pullman to top spot. The rest of the list is made up of a couple of classics and a couple of more recent titles. Also good to see a comic book in there, proving young adult readers in Warrington enjoy a diverse selection of reads
Matthew Entwistle, LiveWire community librarian, said: “It’s fascinating looking back over the past 12 months and seeing what proved to be the most popular choices for our members. It’s fantastic to see the wide range of genres and authors making up these top 10 lists. Here’s looking forward to an equally enjoyable 12 months of reading in 2020.
“Why not make it one of your New Year’s Resolutions to visit your local LiveWire library and enjoy and old favourite or perhaps pick out a new author to try?”
