General election: make sure you are eligible to vote

WARRINGTON residents are being reminded to ensure they are registered to vote in the snap General Election on December 12.
Poll cards are being sent by the Acting Returning Officer to all currently registered electors in the borough from today (Tuesday) and anyone who does not receive one should check that they are registered to vote, and if not, do so as soon as possible.
People who are not available to vote in person on December 12 will need to apply for a postal vote or appoint someone to vote on their behalf (a proxy vote).
The deadline for registering to vote, or to apply for a postal vote, is Tuesday, November 26 at 5pm. The deadline to appoint a proxy is Wednesday December 4 at 5pm. Only people who are registered to vote can take part in the General Election.
To register to vote:
•Visit gov.uk/register-to-vote, where you will need to provide your date of birth and national insurance number.
•You can check if you are already registered to vote, by e-mailing the elections team at [email protected]
To apply for a postal vote:
•Complete the postal vote application form at yourvotematters.co.uk/how-do-i-vote/voting-by-post
•Contact electoral services at [email protected] or call 01925 442184 to be sent a postal vote application form.
To apply for someone to vote on your behalf (a proxy):
•Complete the appropriate form at gov.uk/government/collections/proxy-voting-application-forms
You can vote if you are 18 or over, you live in the UK and are a British or Irish citizen, or a Commonwealth citizen.
