Motorists advised to avoid M6 following reports of seven mile tailbacks

POLICE are advising motorists to slow down in wet conditions and to avoid the M6 this morning following collisions on the north and south bound carriageways creating tailbacks of up to seven miles.

A multi-vehicle collision closed the northbound carriageway near to junction 24 at Ashton at 7am with queues beyond junction 21a at Croft.

One of the vehicles involved was a lorry which collided with a bridge support.

There are also delays southbound on the M6 where all lanes were stopped at junction 19 near Tabley following a multi-vehicle collision at around 8.15am.

Normal traffic conditions for both incident are expected between 10.45-11am.
