A RUNCORN woman who dumped household waste outside a recycling centre in Warrington has been ordered to pay £400 in fines and costs.
Lucy Smith, of Marsh lane, Runcorn was found guilty at Warrington Magistrates Court in connection with a fly-tipping offence at Stockton Heath Recycling Centre.
She was fined £220 and ordered to pay costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £30
The court was told that after a large amount of waste was found outside the recycling centre, the woman was invited to attend council offices for interview. The matter was referred to the court when Smith did not attend the interview.
After the hearing, Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment and public protection, Cllr Judith Guthrie said: “Residents should always deposit waste responsibly – dumping waste outside of a recycling centre when the facility is clearly closed is reckless and irresponsible.
“Residents and visitors to Warrington must ensure that they assist the council with their enquiries into illegal waste disposal. If you pay someone to take items away, you must ask to view the appropriate licence to ensure that they are a registered waste carrier.”
More information about proper and legal waste disposal is available on the council website at warrington.gov.uk
