FIVE fire crews tackled a large fire involving a farm store building at farm in Winwick Lane, Croft, Warrington, last night.

On arrival at 21:15 the crews discovered that a single-storey farm store at Dolly Bridge Farm measuring approximately 10 metres by 20 metres was well alight.

A water relay was set up to get enough water to the timber frame steel clad farm store and crews split the fire into four sectors, due to its size.

Four firefighters, including two wearing breathing apparatus, began fighting the fire, each using a hose reel jet.

A number of small gas cylinders were located and cooled down to make them safe.

The fire was brought under control at 23.20.

Firefighters dampened the farm store down to make it safe and used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots.

The number of fire engines at the scene was reduced from five to three.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun.

The farm is next door to the popular Kenyon Hall Farm which was not affected and is open for business as usual.
