Town Hall stonework to be repaired after being hit by vehicle

BOROUGH Council planning chiefs will be asked next week to approve work to replace damaged stone capping on the Grade 1 Listed Town Hall west annexe gateway.
The stone capping was damaged recently when it was struck by a delivery vehicle, resulting in the loss of a small section of the capping.
It was only last year that the West Annexe Gateway was rebuilt in brickwork, with new stone cappings on the brick piers.
It is proposed to replace the capping rather than repair it – and the contractor who repaired the pillar last year will be doing the work.
Warrington Town Hall is among the top 2.5 per cent of all Listed buildings in England and is of considerable historic, communal and aesthetic value – one of the town’s most important buildings
Stanton Moor sandstone will be used for the work – the same as was used for the recent repair.
