AFTER temporarily surrendering top spot to Whitchurch Alport in midweek Rylands returned to the summit of the North West Counties League Premier Division after beating Congleton Town 4-2 at Gorsey Lane.
Rylands, renowned for scoring early goals this season, were caught napping as the visitors took the lead in the second minute through Dan Cope.
On a glorious sunny afternoon, Rylands took their time to settle into the game but when they did they dominated the game contantly pushing their opponents back creating several chances. They were unable to find a way past
a strong well organized Congleton defence until two minutes before the break when George Lomax equalised following great work down the left by Adam Jones.
Two goals by Andy Scarisbrick in the opening seven minutes of the second half, the second after a howler by the Congleton keeper, put Rylands in complete control of the game. The visitors were forced to open up and
started to attack more but rarely caused the Blues’ rearguard any concerns.
The three points were wrapped up a minute from time when Harry Molyneux netted although Joe Taylor-Mountford scored a consolation two minutes into stoppage time.
After the game Rylands manager tweeted “We were excellent today for large spells and switched off for others. Conceded an early goal but came back into the game and took control of it Fair play to Congleton, a good
young side, who never gave up and gave a really good account of themselves”.
Rylands team v Congleton – McCall, Davies, Freeman, Jones, Shaw, Lees, Gerrard, Wolhuter, White, Lomax, Scarisbrick. Subs used Kenny, Parry, Molyneux.
