Yellows hunt first home win after Saturday stalemate

WARRINGTON Town welcome Bamber Bridge to Cantilever Park on Monday, hunting for their first home win of the season.

The Yellows opened the campaign with a surprise 3-1 home defeat to newly-promoted Morpeth Town, and while they cancelled that out with a 4-2 win at Atherton Collieries on Tuesday, they were held to a goalless draw at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday.

They can take solace from the fact only three clubs have 100% records in the division – with Matlock Town registering three 1-0 wins, and Nantwich Town and Morpeth registering two wins from two.

Title favourites South Shields succumbed at home to Hyde United at the weekend, while relegated FC United sit bottom with three straight defeats.

The draw at Gainsborough, likely to be in contention for a play-off place, came at a cost, with midfielder Steve Jennings forced off injured in the second half.

The Holy Blues had two penalty shouts turned down, both for tackles by Mark Roberts, while Alex Byrne went closest for the Yellows against his former club.
