A FORMER bricklayer from Warrington is celebrating his fourth promotion in five years.
Now an area construction manager, Ashley, still only 27, worked for himself as a bricklayer and then completed an HNC in construction and property at the University of Salford.
He joined housebuilder Redrow Homes in 2014 as an assistant site manager in 2014.
Since then, he has earned a BSc in construction management from Salford and been promoted three times before landing his latest role as area construction manager.
He is also an assistant training manager for the Worldskills UK organisation, a role he took on after winning a gold medal in the bricklaying category of the global Worldskills competition in 2013.
Ashley said: “In my most recent past role as senior project manager I was involved a lot with the day-to-day running of one particular site, but my new role means I’m involved in more of the customer service side and overseeing construction of several developments.
“ It’s great seeing different developments transformed into amazing places that people can call home and being involved from start to finish.”
Ashley says gaining his Worldskills gold medal and being exposed to life experiences and years of training have helped him get to where he is today. He’s also travelling to Russia for this year’s global Worldskills event as part of the UK media team.
Last year Ashley won an NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award and was commended in the national NHBC Health and Safety Awards. In 2014, he was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List and awarded the British Empire Medal for “services to skills”.
