Celebrating 20 years of Warrington Worldwide

1

It is hard to believe twenty years has passed since our very first edition of Warrington Worldwide magazine – which was actually launched AFTER we started publishing local news online!

Despite the many changes in the media world over the past 20 years Warrington Worldwide has managed to stand the test of time and is now one of six publications we produce in and around the area.

It is also fantastic to see many key organisations and businesses who supported us in our very first issue are still with us today.

The pace at which the media world has changed since I penned my first article as a young reporter four decades ago is staggering to say the least.

My first articles were typed on a Victorian typewriter, stories had to be dictated via telephone and photographs were created in a dark room in the cellar!

Now a mobile phone provides a one stop shop for everything and we can actually beam stories and local events live around the world via video at the touch of a button!

There was no such thing as facebook, twitter or Instagram and one wonders what the next twenty years will bring in our ever changing media world!

Looking back at my notes from issue one I welcomed everyone to a whole new world predicting it wouldn’t be long before the worldwide web was being beamed through our TVs. While mobile phones were on the scene little did I know just how much they would change our lives.

While TV (70 pc) is still the number one source of news, the internet has taken over for the 16-24 age group at a staggering 82 pc – mainly through mobile phones – hence all our publications are available in a digital format, although customer feedback tends to suggest hard copy print can still deliver the best return on investment.

Who knows what changes we will see over the next 20 years!!!???

Finally a big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 20 years, especially those who have been with us since day one!

Messages of support:

An incredible milestone and advertising that works!

“Congratulations to Warrington Worldwide on your 20th anniversary – what an incredible milestone!

Hollie Pirrie

As a reader & advertiser, I know what a valuable service you provide to the Warrington community.

As a former Miss Cheshire, I featured in the magazine several times and I knew the great reach that you had because so many people that I knew, who I had perhaps not seen for some considerable time, would contact me about it!

For that reason, I knew when I launched my prom dress store, The Dress Studio, that there was no doubt that I would advertise in Warrington Worldwide to promote the shop. It worked… despite being located in quite a remote area, the  store was busy on opening! Thank you for all of your support…and for your monthly reminders that I need to send in artwork!”

Love Holly & The Dress Studio team
Congratulations again!

Loyalty to everything Warrington is not matched!

On the bus, in the supermarket, in the library, sat in the pub there is one thing that you can always be sure of, there will be a copy of Warrington Worldwide, and the other thing you can guarantee is that a copy will be coming home with me.

It doesn’t surprise me that Gary is known as ‘Mr Warrington,’ and that the publication he started with his father, supported by the entire family, is nearing twenty years in print, and more recently augmented by online and adoption of social media, it is an incredible achievement.

If you live, work or play in Warrington then it is a ‘must have’ publication to pick up, read and take home.

Online it will tell you all you need to know, and if you want a local service, then it is the place to look. For local business it gives incredible advertising reach, and for local organisations and councils it is one of the best ways to communicate with their citizens. Warrington Worldwide’s loyalty to everything Warrington is not matched.

Warrington Worldwide and its sister publications are what local news reporting is all about and I congratulate the team and all their advertisers, supporters, suppliers on this great 20-year milestone and look forward to continuing to pick up my monthly copy and reading the daily online and social media posts.

Only feels like yesterday since welcoming first edition

Congratulations to Warrington Worldwide on reaching its 20th anniversary edition.

It feels like yesterday that I welcomed the first edition. Time goes by so quickly and it will, I am sure, seem like a blink of an eye before we mark the 30th anniversary.

Best wishes to Gary, David and the team for the future.

Twenty years of making and breaking news

Gary Jenkins

“Huge congratulations to Gary and the Warrington Worldwide team on such a momentous milestone.

Twenty years of making and breaking news across the town is some feat – and one that’s been done with such professionalism and grit.

As the face of journalism changes, it’s always fantastic to see Gary and his team continuously making the effort to get to know the many faces and stories behind the people of Warrington.

They certainly played a huge part in making our business feel like a welcome stitch in the fabric of Warrington’s community, and continue to back us four years later.

Here’s to the continued success of the magazine, and the next twenty years!”
