FIRE crews were called out this morning to rescue a horse stuck in a ditch at Warrington.
But when they reached the scene in Heath Lane, Croft they found it was actually a calf stuck in a ditch about 500 metres from the road
Fire fighters from Lymm, Bollington and Wigan went to the scene, together with the animal rescue unit from Lymm and the rope rescue unit from Bollington.
A vet was also in attendance and a plan was devised to get the calf out of the ditch with the aid of a tractor at the nearby farm.
The animal was sedated by the vet and firefighters then managed to get it out of the ditch before handing it over to the care of the vet.
Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour-and-a-half.
