THE annual Penketh Carnival promises to be a fantastic event this Saturday (July 13) at 11:30am with “World Friends” as its theme.

Sadly Penketh Carnival is also tinged with sadness for the Penketh Events Team who have dedicated this year’s event to the memory of the late Cllr Allin Dirir who promoted and encouraged tolerance and harmony.

With this in mind a “World Friends “ theme has been chosen in the hope that differences can be embraced by the children of Penketh and everyone can stand together in unity.

A 500 strong parade is expected along with horses, bands, cheer leaders, dancers , cadets and the Mayor of Warrington Cllr. Wendy Johnson shall be leading the parade .

The ever popular event boasts a large fun fair, free activities including a circus workshop, a laser gun range run by the Army, a George Formby tribute group, a dog show and headlining the day will be the fantastic Lotharios.

There will also be classic cars, craft and car boot stalls, donkeys and a whole range of activities to keep all the family entertained.

Penketh Events Team have also teamed up with the Sportsman’s Arms to raffle a Giant teddy in aid of the anti-online bullying charity ( Bullying UK). Jackie, manager of the local pub said “ As new landlords we are really looking forward to supporting the carnival in our first year in Penketh . We want be a part of the community and do whatever we can to make this day fantastic .”

A spokesperson for the team said “We need to make a special mention for the 10 person strong team we now have who have dedicated hours to weeks of their time to make this event happen . They have offered their skills from graphic design , event management and marketing . Its no easy task to put on an event of this size without any corporate sponsorship or local government funding but each year we aim to make it bigger and better for the people of Penketh whilst maintaining it will always be free entry. They all do it for the love of their community and its fantastic volunteers like this that keep this event alive.”

Come along and enjoy the day on the 13th July- The parade starts at 11 30 and residents are encouraged to wave the children along .

The Event itself starts at noon at Penketh Recreational ground where there will be live music and free entertainment held throughout the day and into the evening.

There will be a bar and a prosecco stand along with gourmet burgers and Wood fired pizza. Bring your picnic blanket along and sit back , relax and enjoy the day.
