A MAN who was stuck in deep mud on a Mersey embankment at Warrington was rescued by fire and rescue crews.
The incident was off Wilderspool Causeway at around 8pm last night.
Four fire engines attended – from Warrington, Stockton Heath, Penketh and Widnes – and crews were at the scene for around an hour and-a-half.
A water rescue unit, a hydraulic platform and a rope rescue unit from Lymm were also involved in the rescue.
On arrival the crews assessed the casualty and his surroundings and formulated a plan of action.
A fire service boat was launched and acted as a safety boat for firefighters.
The man was placed on a longboard and carried up the bankside. He was then handed over to the care of paramedics and taken to hospital, although it is believed he was not seriously harmed..
