WARRINGTON Wolves and Wigan Warriors will turn back the clock 30 years when they compete for the Locker Cup at the Dacia Magic Weekend fixture at Anfield this Bank Holiday weekend.

At this year’s Magic Weekend Warrington and Wigan will be marking the 30th anniversary of the Great American Challenge of 1989 in Milwaukee, wearing replicas of the original playing kits.

Further history between these two clubs will also be recognised as they will be competing for the Locker Cup trophy, a popular pre-season friendly trophy previously competed for in 24 matches, with both teams winning 12 apiece.

The Locker Cup was last played for in 1995 with the launch of Super League in 1996.

The clubs agreed to amalgamate the two and celebrate 30 years since the Milwaukee adventure and play for the Locker Cup at the Magic Weekend.

To help mark the occasion players past and present teamed up at Locker’s premises in Farrell Street, including former Welsh Wizard Mike Nicholas, who worked there during his playing days, before setting up a successful taxi cab company in the town.
