MP calls for Broomfields Leisure Centre upgrade

WARRINGTON South MP has called for a “much needed” upgrade to Broomfields Leisure Centre following a visit to see the new facilities on offer at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub.

Faisal recently visited the Great Sankey Hub where he met with Councillor Tony Higgins, Warrington Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure and Community and Livewire Managing Director, Emma Hutchinson.

During the visit Faisal was given a tour of the facility, including a look at the newly refurbished swimming pools.

The former Great Sankey Leisure Centre has been transformed into a neighbourhood hub, which encompasses leisure, library, health, and cultural facilities under one roof.

Along the tour Faisal also took the opportunity to press the case for much-needed improvements to Broomfields Leisure Centre in Appleton.

Faisal said: “It was a pleasure to be shown around the Great Sankey Hub – and to see the newly refurbished swimming pools. I look forward to the opening of the new health spaces and a new Subway, which are expected in the Hub shortly.

“Located in the heart of the community, the Hub offers a range of services in a modern setting. It is great to see a local community asset receive the investment it deserves.

“This investment sends an important message – that as a town we are committed to delivering facilities for the betterment of local health and wellbeing.

“During the visit, we also discussed Broomfields Leisure Centre. I made it clear to both Emma Hutchinson and Councillor Higgins that investment in the Centre was long overdue and that I wanted to see the community facility receive a much-needed upgrade as soon as possible.

“Both confirmed during our meeting that discussions on this work were ongoing. I will continue to press both Livewire and the Council for action on this. I want to see work to revamp Broomfields Leisure Centre carried out as soon as possible.”
