Agonising last minute defeat for Latchford

LATCHFORD fell to an agonising defeat when a last minute try gave a 28-24 victory to visitors Haresfinch after a pulsating encounter.
Albion started strongly and went ahead in the opening exchanges when Fraser Jones-Lake took Jack Phillips’ short pass to barge his way under the posts, Alex Davies converting.
Haresfinch responded with a converted try to level the scores, but this was short lived as Albion regained the lead when the ball was moved across the line allowing winger Jake Ashton the space to dive in at the corner.
The pivotal moment of the half came when Ashton was sinbinned for dissent. The visitors used their numerical advantage to register two quick fire tries which put them in command of the game.
On the stroke of half time, stand off Adam Wadsworth dummied his way over the Haresfinch line and at half time Latchford trailed 14 – 18.
As with the first half the hosts started strongly, and hooker Phil Woollacott spotted a gap in the visitors defence which he raced through and crossed out wide to level the scores.
A series of handing errors gifted Haresfinch good field position which they took full advantage of to score a further converted try allowing them to regain the lead 18 – 24 on the hour mark.
On 71 minutes Albion once more gave themselves a lifeline when the impressive Jones-Lake registered his second try of the afternoon as he raced in from 20 yards out, Jack Phillips adding the conversion.
With time running out and both sides looking for the crucial score, it was a mistake from the hosts which was seized upon by the visitors, as they collected the loose ball and raced 40 yards to seal the victory as the referees whistle went after the conversion had been missed.
Although defeated Albion had three players on debut in Charlie McCurrie, Dylan Kelly and Matt Barker who all acquitted themselves well and they now offer additional competition for places.
This Saturday Albion make the journey to Folly Lane. Kick off 2.30pm
