Man attacked and robbed in broad daylight

A MAN was attacked from behind and knocked to the ground as he walked in Warrington town centre in broad daylight.
Police are appealing for information from the public following the robbery at around 3.45pm on Bank Holiday Monday in Bold Street.
The 20-year-old victim was walking from the direction of Wilson Patten Street when another man caught up with him from behind.Monday, 6 May, a 20-year-old was walking along Bold Street from the direction of Wilson Patten Street when another man caught up to him from behind.
He was punched to the head and wrestled to the ground.
After failing to pull the victim’s bag from him, the offender managed to steal an e-cigarette before fleeing.
He headed back towards Wilson Patten Street.
The victim sustained minor head injuries as a result of the incident but did not require medical attention.
The offender is described as about 6 ft tall and is estimated to be aged between 29 and 35 years old. He was of slim build and was wearing a black North Face coat with the hood up, grey tracksuit bottoms and dark trainers.
The coat had a white logo on the back, at the right shoulder.
Enquiries in relation to the incident, which occurred near the junction with St Austins Lane, are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened to come forward.
They also want to speak to anyone who believes they may know who the offender is, or have CCTV or dashcam footage of him.
Detective Constable Jill Peggs said: “The victim has understandably been left extremely shaken up following this frightening incident.
“I would like to reassure residents that it is believed to be an isolated incident and we are stepping up patrols in the area as a result of the robbery.
“I would also like to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to catch the offender and bring him to justice.
“Enquiries are ongoing and as part of our investigation we are appealing for anyone with any information or footage regarding the robbery to get in touch with the team here at Warrington Police Station.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was driving along Bold Street and had to stop their vehicle as a result of the offender having pulled the victim onto the road.
“Perhaps those motorists or others driving in the area have dashcam footage of the offender.
“We also want to talk to anyone who recognises the description of the offender and believes that they may know who he is.
“If you think that you can aid our investigation in any way please come forward.”
