New street market cancelled because of storm warning

THE launch of Warrington Market’s new street market “The Wire Market” has been cancelled this coming weekend due to forecasts of high winds and rain.
Storm Hannah, which could involve winds of up to 70mph, is not expected to hit Warrington, but the Met office has issued warnings of potential strong winds and heavy rain in the North West and gusts could reach speeds of over 40mph.
Market Operations Manager Paul Blaney said: “After months in the planning, it is disappointing to have to postpone the market at this late stage. We have modern stalls and plenty of secure weights, but gusts can be unpredictable and we are not prepared to put the public and traders at risk.
“We would like to apologise to shoppers who were looking forward to the event, but their safety is our primary concern. Our award-winning indoor market remains open and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome”.
The monthly street market will now launch at 10am on Saturday June 29, followed by the last Saturday of the month thereon in.
