Ways to Relax in Warrington

Well known for being the largest town in Cheshire, Warrington sits on the banks of the River Mersey between Liverpool and Manchester.

A forward thinking borough, Warrington’s bid to become UK City of Culture demonstrates the efforts which have been made to modernise the industrial town. Warrington was designated a new town in 1968 and has grown in size since, with the new jobs this created offsetting the industrial decline during the 1970s and 1980s. While Warrington could not really be described as a tourist hotspot, there are definitely reasons to pay a visit to this delightful part of the UK.

There are a number of parks and highly regarded areas of natural beauty within Warrington, making it the perfect city to take some time out and relax. Walton Hall and Gardens is arguably the most popular location for outdoor activities in the local area. Walton Hall is a country house which was built in the 1800s, and is now recorded as a Grade II listed building. Open to the general public, Walton Hall and Gardens feature a wide variety of facilities including bowls, crazy golf, pitch and putt as well as a children’s zoo. The hall itself also makes for a beautiful wedding venue. For anyone specifically looking for some relaxation time, there are a number of tranquil areas away from the sporting activities to escape the everyday stresses of work and such like.

Taking the relaxation theme a step further, a mini break in Warrington is definitely an option thanks to the number of hotels and B&B on offer. When making a booking, a good night’s rest is obviously a priority. That being the case, it is well worth taking the time to undertake a bit of research and ensure any prospective hotel has a suitable bed available. Although Ottoman beds are not the norm for most hotels, they are a particularly practical choice for the smaller venue. With the correct mattress, ottomans can provide excellent support and comfort for those looking to unwind during a getaway, or simply relax after a tough day in the office.

Another way the population of Warrington like to spend their leisure time is by supporting the local rugby league club, the Warrington Wolves. The Halliwell Jones Stadium opened its doors in 2004, and has since been the site for some incredible rugby league encounters. This stadium has staged the European Nations Final as well as the Challenge Cup semi finals in recent years, and sees crowds of up to 15,000 through its doors on a regular basis. While the atmosphere is usually intense, the Warrington Wolves’ home games can also provide a way for patrons to relax over food and drinks with friends, away from the passion of the game itself. Obviously, rugby league matches are not usually for the faint-hearted, but the Halliwell Jones Stadium’s restaurant and function rooms allow the more casual fan the opportunity to take in the matches without being on the front line so to speak!
